No Defending Bruce Bowen’s Latest Infraction on Phoenix’s Amare Stoudemire

The AM Take: You can’t teach old dogs new tricks. That’s what I thought watching Bruce Bowen forearm Amare Stoudemire during Wednesday’s San Antonio-Phoenix game.

If you missed it, the Spurs-Suns game was decided, when San Antonio’s super-pest nailed Stoudemire with a lethal forearm that left STAT hunched over like a drunken teenager on a Saturday evening bender.

In Bowen’s defence, (yes, I can say that without feeling like Johnny Cochrane or Jackie Chiles) guards are taught to use their forearm to ward off on-the-ball screens in the open-court.

Bowen’s problem is precedence. Because of his past, most fans believe he’s dirtier than Christina Aguilera and find him guilty of wrongdoing on the most harmless of plays.

Of course, the evidence against Bowen is all over youtube. Watching Wednesday’s infraction on the search engine, two other Bowen-on-Stoudemire clips came up under “related videos”. Yes, two. One is a post-dunk kick. The second is a trip on a lay-up. Then there’s last year’s knee to Steve Nash’s groin, along with his other infractions.

Defending Bowwen’s tactics can be tough. That said, every team would welcome him and, after Wednesday, a Spurs-Suns playoff rematch got even more intriguing.

Basketball is a contact sport, if you cant take the beating then just quit or play something else like chess or ping pong. Cheap shots are part of the game sometimes you just need to suck it up and keep playing dont be a **ssy .

that doesnt look intentional to me. I’ve hit someone like that unintentionally before so I don’t think Bowen did that intentionally. Thats just fuct up biyatches. .

I just think Bowen caught him right in the solar plexus with his elbow which is why he went down and from the quick recovery it seems like there was a little acting going on to get the refs to act. I do not think that was a dirty play but I do think that he plays on the edge defensively. Only Bowen knows if he tries to hurt people, but I do not think he is a real dirty player. As a Piston fan I hate him, as a basketball fan, I wish we had him on our team. .

all you hate because he is one of the best defenders of all time. that’s whats wrong with the new generation, they’re soft, is someone brushes up against them they want a pently called. bruce represents the old school style hard nose defense, they was played back in the day. .

i hate bruce bowen. no doubt he is a dirty player. but he is no worse than say raja bell on the suns. these are the types of guys you love to have on your team, but hate to play against. .

Bowen is dirty player.. he just pissed off becuase superstars like Kobe, Tmac, n Lebron always victimizing him with their superior offensive skills. thats why he throwing Judo moves that UFC would be proud of. He just mad cuased he’s always on sportscenter, he can be seen in the background when kobe is throwing wicked crossovers and deadly jumpshots. Bruce bowen should just go pick a fight with Kimbo Slice, GO KIMBO! .

Bowen gets away with his tactics because the referees allow it. I think he will get his one day. He and the Spurs take great pride in him. After Nash was knocked into the scorers table by Horry last year, Pop said. "It was a hard foul". But, the refs are starting to get to him, they are finally starting to call fouls like they should and he was suspended one game this year. .

I hate Bowen as much as the next, and even though that was a bit dirty (but not too bad knowing his past), check out this clip of the same game which is by far worse...the last ten seconds of the clip there is a play where he blatantly trips Nash — http://sports.roadband/video/videopage?&brand=null&videoId=3339103&n8pe6c=3 .

I hate him. And there are better defenders then him. Kobe guards the best offensive guard everynight, AND scores like crazy. All bowen has to do is focus on defense. I have a game where he undercuts jamal crawford where you just cant deny it was intentional....i hate players like that. Whish he would have tried that with sir charles, or charles oakley, or antonio davis,or derrick coleman or karl malone. Oh how i whish... .
