NBA issues fines to Payton and Claxton

New York, NY (Basketball News) - The National Basketball Association Friday issued fines to the Lakers’ Gary Payton and the Warriors’ Speedy Claxton for their roles in an altercation during the February 18 contest between the two clubs.

The incident occurred midway through the third quarter. Los Angeles led 64-62 when Claxton and Payton got into a fight near the scorer’s table. No punches were thrown during the melee, which resulted in both players being ejected.

Payton was fined $15,000, while Claxton received a $7,500 penalty.
