Blazers start homestand against Lakers

11.8.2006

(Basketball News) - The Portland Trail Blazers start a three-game homestand when they welcome the Los Angeles Lakers tonight to the Rose Garden.

Portland attempts to get back on the winning tack this evening. On Monday, Corey Maggette led a balanced attack with 20 points and nine rebounds as the Clippers topped the Trail Blazers, 102-89, at the Staples Center.

Zach Randolph finished with 35 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to the Clippers for the Trail Blazers, while Jarrett Jack ended with 17 points and Ime Udoka netted 11 and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Trail Blazers are 1-0 at home this season, as they knocked off the Minnesota Timberwolves, 88-86, last Saturday at the Rose Garden. Portland will host the Hornets on Friday and the Mavericks on Sunday in the finale of the current stand.

The Lakers try to continue their strong start, as they have won four of their first five games. On Tuesday, Andrew Bynum continued his impressive play with a career-high 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lakers to a 95-88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Staples Center.

Kobe Bryant scored 17 points and dished out six assists, while Lamar Odom added 15 points and nine rebounds in the win over Minnesota for the Lakers. Luke Walton ended with 14 points and Smush Parker netted 11, as all five Lakers starters finished in double figures.

After tonight’s contest, the Lakers return home for a five-game stand. They will host Detroit, Memphis, Toronto, Chicago and the Clippers on the upcoming homestand.

The Lakers are 1-1 on the road this season.

Last season, the Lakers and Trail Blazers split four contests. The Lakers have lost three straight after winning their last two at Portland.
