Road Warriors; Golden State tops Milwaukee

Baron Davis added 20 points and dished out 15 assists as the Warriors won their second straight on a three-game road trip that concludes Wednesday in Chicago. Golden State pulled out an 83-81 decision at New York on Sunday.

Michael Redd and Maurice Williams each finished with 21 points for the Bucks, who were shooting for their first 4-0 start since 2001-02. Joe Smith produced 12 points and 12 rebounds over 20 minutes in his first game action of the year.

The Warriors held a slim 60-59 lead before reeling off 12 consecutive third- quarter points to break away.

Murphy had the first eight points of the run, including back-to-back three- pointers which put Golden State up 68-59 midway through the period. Mike Dunleavy sank a triple less than a minute later to push the margin to 12 points.

The Warriors shot 48 percent (13-of-27) from beyond the arc for the night.

Milwaukee pulled to within 82-74 on Williams’ driving layup to end the third quarter and later trimmed the lead to five, 87-82, when Williams canned an outside jumper three minutes into the fourth. Charlie Bell’s layup off a feed from T.J. Ford with 6:03 to go cut the deficit to 90-87.

Murphy netted the next six points, but the Bucks would score the next seven. The last five came from Bell, whose inside bucket with 3:48 left put the hosts down 96-94.

It remained a two-point game in the final seconds. Davis’ bucket with 27 seconds to go put the Warriors ahead 105-101, but Milwaukee’s Jamaal Magloire scored on a stickback 12 seconds later. Richardson then hit two free throws for a four-point edge that sealed the win.

Trailing 17-13 with under six minutes left in the opening period, the Warriors embarked on a 14-0 run to take a 10-point lead. Richardson, who scored six of his eight first-quarter points during the burst, ignited the flurry with an outside jumper. Murphy followed with a three-pointer on Golden State’s next possession to put the visitors ahead.

However, Milwaukee closed out the quarter with six unanswered points and drew within 27-23 on Bobby Simmons’ fastbreak layup off a Davis turnover with 21 seconds left.

The Bucks continued to close the gap and regained the upper hand when Jiri Welsch buried a three-pointer with 8:25 remaining in the half to make the score 34-33.

The game remained tight over the remainder of the second quarter. Andrew Bogut was fouled after converting a layup with 1:14 to go before intermission and hit the subsequent foul shot to put Milwaukee up 53-50. Davis would send the teams into the locker room all tied up when he sunk a triple with 24 seconds on the clock.

Smith missed Milwaukee’s first three games with a swollen left knee...Welsch also saw his first action of the season, netting five points in six minutes. He had been sidelined with a bruised quadriceps...Bogut finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists...Golden State has won all three meetings between the clubs over the last two years but won for just the third time in its last 12 trips to Milwaukee.
