Sizzling Suns rout Warriors

01.8.2007

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - Shawn Marion dominated inside play with 24 points and 17 rebounds, as Phoenix continued its amazing run with a 128-105 rout of the Golden State Warriors.

Leandro Barbosa tallied 26 points and James Jones added 25 for the Suns, who won their sixth straight game. They have captured 24 of their last 27 contests following a 1-5 start to the campaign.

Steve Nash contributed 14 points and 10 assists for Phoenix, which beat Golden State for the sixth time in the last seven meetings. Nash also became the ninth player (fourth active) in NBA history to reach the 10,000-point, 5,000- assist and 1,000 three-point field goal milestone.

Amare Stoudemire contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

As for Jones, he attributed his success to the league changing the ball back to the leather version at the turn of the new year.

"I love the old ball," Jones said. "I was having problems shooting the composite ball. The leather ball feels better and I think it is actually better for guys with big hands. I said that from the jump and I think a lot of other guys in the league will enjoy it now too."

Monta Ellis scored 22 points, but also accounted for nine of Golden State’s 25 turnovers. Baron Davis had 17 points and Kelenna Azubuike tallied 16 for the Warriors, who have dropped two of their last three games.

"Tonight we faced a team that was rolling, a playoff caliber team and they know what to do to a team when they come in on a back to back," Davis said. "We’ve got to get better."

Andris Biedrins tied his career high with 17 rebounds for Golden State.

The Warriors held a 30-29 lead after the opening quarter, but the Suns established momentum in the second. A Marion alley-oop jam off a feed from Nash, combined with a Barbosa three-pointer moved Phoenix to a 50-43 lead. It was 61-53 at the half.

Nash hit a three-pointer during a run of 11 straight points by the Suns for a 79-61 cushion with 6:13 remaining in the third, and Phoenix’s advantage stood at 93-76 going into the fourth.

Golden State gave up the first seven points of the final period and trailed by at least 20 the rest of the night.
