Spurs top Kings for 11th straight win

03.9.2007

Sacramento, CA (Basketball News) - Manu Ginobili scored 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter, as the Spurs ran their winning streak to 11 by topping Sacramento, 100-93, at ARCO Arena.

Tim Duncan was strong with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Tony Parker ended with 15 points, which included an acrobatic shot late in the final quarter.

This is the longest winning streak for the Spurs since they closed the 2003-04 campaign with 11 consecutive victories. The team record winning string is 17, held by the 1995-96 squad.

Kevin Martin tallied 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Kings, who also got 21 from Corliss Williamson and 12 from Mike Bibby. However, Sacramento was sloppy in the last few minutes, losing a slim lead with a series of turnovers, and the Kings had their four-game winning streak broken.

Bibby’s three-point shot had the Kings ahead 86-85 with 3:35 left, but Parker drove the lane for a layup. Then, after a missed shot by Brad Miller, Parker threw up the ball while falling down along the right baseline as he was fouled by Williamson. The ball somehow found its way into the basket.

Even though Parker missed the ensuing foul shot, the Kings continued to stumble. Martin committed a turnover, but after Parker missed, Martin couldn’t connect on a layup.

The Spurs went 9-of-10 from the free throw line in the final 1:50.

The Spurs held a 25-19 lead after the opening quarter and were in front 48-44 at the half. It remained tight throughout the third with the visitors claiming a 65-61 margin going into the fourth. Matt Bonner nailed a three for the Spurs to represent the final points of the third.
