Spurs try to extend win streak against Warriors

(Basketball News) - The streaking San Antonio Spurs try to extend their winning streak to five games tonight, as they host the Golden State Warriors at the AT&T Center.

San Antonio is one-half game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks for first place in the Southwest Division and the top spot in the Western Conference.

Golden State has lost 16 straight at San Antonio. The Warriors have not won at San Antonio since a 108-94 win on February 14, 1997, at the Alamodome.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. San Antonio won the three previous contests.

The Spurs have won six straight and seven of the last eight meetings in this series.

On Saturday, Tony Parker finished with 23 points and eight assists to lead the defending world champion Spurs to a 92-77 win over the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center.

Tim Duncan posted 14 points and eight rebounds and Robert Horry netted 12 in the win over Houston for the Spurs, who have won four in a row and 12 of their last 14 games overall. Rasho Nesterovic scored 10 points in the victory.

The Spurs are an impressive 29-4 as the host this season. They have won three straight and 10 of their last 11 at home.

After tonight’s game, San Antonio will embark on a five-game road trip. The Spurs are scheduled to visit Denver, Portland, Seattle, the Clippers and Lakers on the upcoming swing.

Golden State, which plays the first of a three-game road trip, enters tonight’s game on a two-game winning streak. Mike Dunleavy ended with a game- high 28 points and also collected 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors past the Philadelphia 76ers, 98-89, at The Arena in Oakland.

Jason Richardson scored 23 points and Troy Murphy posted a double-double with 12 points and 16 boards in the win over the Sixers for Golden State, which has won three of its last four games overall.

The Warriors are 10-21 as the visitor this season. They have lost seven of their last eight games on the road. Golden State is scheduled to visit Dallas on Thursday and Sacramento on Sunday.
