Streaking Suns try to come down on Jersey

12.7.2006

(Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns shoot for their eighth straight win this evening when they open a five-game road trip against the New Jersey Nets at Continental Airlines Arena.

Phoenix notched its seventh straight win with Tuesday’s 127-102 victory over the Sacramento Kings at US Airways Center. Leandro Barbosa led six Phoenix players in double figures with 26 points and Steve Nash had a season-high 20 assists to extend the win streak.

Shawn Marion tallied 23 points, while Amare Stoudemire added 17 and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Suns, who have won nine of 10 since starting the season 1-5. They also have won seven in a row at home.

Now the Suns will hit the road where they have won two straight and own a 2-4 record. Phoenix is a game behind the LA Lakers in the Pacific Division and will visit New Jersey, Boston, Charlotte, Orlando and Miami.

Meanwhile, the Nets had a two-game winning streak come to an end with Tuesday’s 92-75 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at Continental Airlines Arena.

Vince Carter chipped in 20 points on 6-of-19 shooting and Nenad Krstic poured in 18 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Nets, who have lost seven of the last nine games. Jason Kidd finished with 10 points, eight assists and eight rebounds in the contest for New Jersey, which is 1-7 versus the Western Conference this season.

The Nets, who lead the Atlantic Division by a half game over Toronto, are 1-1 on a six-game homestand and 4-5 as the host this season.

Phoenix defeated New Jersey, 99-93, on November 24 this season and has won five of six, seven of 10 and 10 of the last 15 meetings.

The Suns, though, have lost five of six and seven of their last nine trips to New Jersey.
