Suns open road trip in Memphis

04.3.2007

(Basketball News) - The Pacific Division champion Phoenix Suns begin a four- game road trip when they visit the NBA-worst Memphis Grizzlies tonight at FedExForum.

Phoenix is No. 2 in the Western Conference, six games behind the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks, and three games ahead of the third-seeded San Antonio Spurs.

The Suns attempt to make it three straight victories this evening. Leandro Barbosa paced a balanced Phoenix attack with 29 points to lead Phoenix over the Mavericks, 126-104, on Sunday at US Airways Center.

Amare Stoudemire scored 24 and grabbed nine rebounds, while reigning MVP Steve Nash posted 23 points and 11 assists in the win over Dallas. Shawn Marion had 20 points for the Suns, who have won five of their last seven games overall.

Phoenix is an impressive 24-11 on the road this season. The Suns will also visit San Antonio, New Orleans/Oklahoma City and the Lakers on the current swing.

Memphis tries to halt a two-game losing streak, as it returns home after going 2-4 on a six-game road trip. On Sunday, Jason Richardson scored 26 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out eight assists as the Golden State Warriors held off the Grizzlies, 122-117, at ORACLE Arena.

Pau Gasol led Memphis with 23 points, nine boards and five assists in the loss to Golden State. Tarence Kinsey ended with 21 points, while Hakim Warrick and Chucky Atkins both netted 19 and rookie Rudy Gay scored 15 in defeat.

The Grizzlies are 12-24 at home this season. Memphis will host the Warriors on Friday at ORACLE Arena.

This is the fourth and final meeting of the campaign between the squads. The Suns are 3-0 against Memphis this season and have won four in a row in the series.

Phoenix has won two of its last three at Memphis. The Suns are 14-7 at the Grizzlies.
