Phoenix Suns Team Report - December 6

(Basketball News) - One night after coming back from the biggest deficit in team history, the Phoenix Suns continue their four-game road trip in New Jersey against the Nets at Continental Airlines Arena.

Last night Stephon Marbury scored 21 of his game-high 34 points in the second half, as Phoenix rallied from 29 down for a stunning 110-106 comeback victory over the Boston Celtics. The turnaround marked the biggest comeback in Suns’ history, besting their previous record comeback of 27 points against Dallas on March 2, 1997.

Phoenix, which ended a three-game losing streak, had six players score in double-digits, with Joe Johnson putting up 17. Shawn Marion also added 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year.

Marbury gave the Suns their first lead since the opening bucket when he converted a layup with 6:05 to go to make it 90-88. He then made back-to-back three pointers to give Phoenix the lead for good at 101-96 with 2:17 remaining.

The win might have come at a cost, though, as forward Amare Stoudemire had to be helped from the court after spraining his left ankle in the second quarter. He went to the floor after landing on Paul Pierce’s foot under the Suns’ basket.

He was taken for X-rays and will likely miss tonight’s contest.

Phoenix is 2-4 away from home this season.

The Suns could be at a disadvantage tonight, as the home team in this series has won the last seven meetings. The Nets have also won three of the last five matchups, including the last three and five of the last six in the Garden State.
