Pistons name Porter assistant coach

Porter spent two seasons as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, leading the team to a 41-41 record and a playoff berth in his first season there.
Before he got into coaching, Porter enjoyed a distinguished 17-year career in the NBA, averaging 12.2 points, 5.6 assists and 1.24 steals with Minnesota, Portland, Miami and San Antonio.
"We are pleased to add Terry Porter to our coaching staff," said Detroit president of basketball operations Joe Dumars. "Terry was a fierce competitor during his playing days and he has excelled as both a head coach and assistant coach in this league. We feel his experience is a good fit for out team."
Porter was named an All-Star twice (1991, 1993) and made two trips to the NBA Finals (1990, 1992). He signed with the Timberwolves before the 1995-96 season and joined coach Flip Saunders, who is the current Pistons head coach. Together, they led Minnesota to its first-ever playoff berth in 1996-97 and its first winning season the following year.
"I’m excited about the opportunity that Joe Dumars and Flip Saunders have given me," said Porter. "The Pistons are a championship organization and I look forward to working with the players and coaching staff."
