According to prosecutor Dana Easter, the accuser has been affected by the latest developments in the case and that the release of closed-door testimony has hampered the prosecution’s chances of getting a fair trial.
Easter also noted that the release of such information less than a month before the trial is "extremely harmful" and will have an impact on the jury pool. Jury selection is set to begin on August 27.
The suit filed by the accuser Tuesday seeks undisclosed damages for pain, suffering and "public scorn, hatred and ridicule." The woman’s attorneys requested a jury trial and compensatory damages of at least $75,000, with punitive damages to be determined at a later time.
The 25-year-old Bryant is accused of sexually assaulting a then 19-year-old woman more than a year ago at a Colorado resort, a Class 3 felony with penalties ranging from four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation.
Bryant, who was in Colorado for surgery on his right knee at the time of the alleged assault, claimed the two had consensual sex.
