Winless Raptors head to Beantown

(Basketball News) - The Toronto Raptors try once again for that elusive first victory of the season this evening when they head to Boston to face the Celtics at TD Banknorth Garden.

The Raptors’ extended their franchise worst start on Wednesday, as they dropped a 121-115 decision to the re-hot Philadelphia 76ers in the conclusion of a home-and-home series at the Air Canada Centre.

Mike James scored a career-high 38 points for Toronto, which has dropped its first eight games of the season. The Raptors and the Atlanta Hawks (x-x) remain the league’s only winless teams.

Chris Bosh, who had 23 points and 10 rebounds, added his sixth double-double of the season while Joey Graham added a career-high 13 points for the Raptors.

Toronto, which has made a three- pointer in 540 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NBA, will return home on Sunday to face the Heat before beginning a four-game homestand. The Raps are 0-2 away from home this season.

Boston, meanwhile, comes in riding a losing streak of its own after falling 113-100 at home to the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday.

Paul Pierce had a team-high 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting for the Celtics, who have dropped two straight by nearly identical scores. They lost 115-100 Tuesday night at Detroit.

Ricky Davis added 21 points and nine assists, while Raef LaFrentz had 14 points.

The Celtics, who will close a brief two-game homestand tonight, are 3-3 in their arena this season.

Boston took three of four from the Raptors last season and has won six of the last seven meetings. Toronto has also struggled in Beantown, where they have dropped five straight and six of its last seven.
