"I’m very grateful to (Wizards chairman Abe Pollin) and the Washington Wizards organization," said Jordan. "I’m proud of the steps that we have taken as an organization to bring a championship to Washington. Our recent success is the beginning of our collective effort to win an NBA Championship, and I’m extremely grateful to the organization, the fans and the city for their support."
After posting a 25-57 record in his first season with Washington, Jordan led the Wizards to a 20-game improvement in the 2004-05 campaign that also included a first round series win over the Chicago Bulls.
Although Washington struggled at times this past season on the way to a 42-40 mark and were eliminated in the first round by Cleveland, it marked the franchise’s first back-to-back postseason appearances since 1987 and 1988.
"Eddie has done a very good job in leading our team to the playoffs over the past two seasons," said Washington president of basketball operations Ernie Grunfeld. "We have a very young and talented team that has made great strides under Eddie’s leadership. This contract extension will provide our team with the kind of continuity and stability that we will need to have continued success in the future."
Including a brief stint with the Sacramento Kings, Jordan owns a record of 145-198 as a NBA head coach.
