Nets, Sonics meet at Meadowlands

11.15.2005

(Basketball News) - The New Jersey Nets try to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak this evening when they continue their three-game homestand against the Seattle SuperSonics at Continental Airlines Arena.

On Saturday, New Jersey found itself on the wrong end of a 99-91 decision to a returning Tracy MccGrady and the Houston Rockets. Jason Kidd scored 20 points and had nine rebounds and five assists for the Nets, who have lost three of their last four.

Richard Jefferson added 17 points and Vince Carter chipped in with 16 points on 6-of-19 shooting. The Nets, who have yet to shoot 50 percent in a game this season, connected on just 37-percent of their shots in Saturday’s loss.

To make matters worse backup forward Jason Collins left the game with a strained a lower leg muscle after colliding with Houston’s Rafer Alston early in the third quarter. He is questionable for tonight’s game.

New Jersey, which will close its stand against Washington on Saturday, is 2-2 in its arena this season.

Seattle, meanwhile, comes in on a winning note after Rashard Lewis scored a season-high 41 points in the SuperSonics 126-121 overtime win over the winless Toronto Raptors on Sunday at Air Canada Centre.

With five seconds to go in overtime and Seattle ahead 123-121, Nick Collison completed a three- point play to seal the contest as the Sonics snapped a three-game losing streak.

Ray Allen scored 19 points and Collison finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the Seattle win.

Seattle, which is in the midst of a six-game road trip, is a dismal 1-3 away from home on the year. It will close its trek in Boston on Wednesday.

The Sonics took both matchups with the Nets last season and has won seven of 12 and 10 of the last 16 meetings. Seattle, though, has dropped five of eight and eight of its last 12 in the Garden State.
