Sonics host Carmelo, Nuggets

01.23.2007

(Basketball News) - The Seattle SuperSonics try to win a season-best fourth straight game when they welcome the Denver Nuggets tonight to KeyArena.

Seattle plays the fifth of a season-long seven game homestand. All-Star Ray Allen poured in 21 points as the SuperSonics continued their dominance of Milwaukee with a 99-72 rout of the Bucks on Friday at KeyArena.

Damien Wilkins scored 16 points, while Nick Collison scored 13 and pulled down 16 rebounds for the Sonics, who have won seven straight against Milwaukee. Luke Ridnour netted 13 and Chris Wilcox grabbed 11 boards for Seattle, which has won three in a row after a six-game losing streak.

The SuperSonics are 12-9 at home this season. They will also host the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers on the current homestand.

Denver plays the first of a brief two-game road trip. On Monday, Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony combined for 51 points in their first game as Denver teammates, as the Nuggets pounced on the Memphis Grizzlies early for a 115-98 victory on Monday at the Pepsi Center.

Anthony returned from a 15-game suspension for hitting New York’s Mardy Collins in the infamous brawl with the Knicks on December 16th at Madison Square Garden. While Anthony was absent, the Nuggets acquired Iverson from Philadelphia, but the two had to wait over a month before playing together.

The Nuggets are a respectable 9-7 on the road this season. They will visit Carlos Boozer and the Utah Jazz on Friday at EnergySolutions Arena.

This is the second meeting of the season between the clubs. The Nuggets defeated Seattle, 112-98, on December 28th at the Pepsi Center.

Denver has lost three of five and four of its last seven at Seattle. The Nuggets have won three of the last four contests in the series.
