The 24-year-old Banks spent the first 2 1/2 years of his NBA career in Boston before being shipped to Minnesota this past January. This past season, he averaged 10 points and 3.8 assists in 58 games (29 starts) in splitting time between the two clubs.
The Las Vegas native is expected to provide much-needed depth at the point guard spot behind perennial All-Star and two-time league MVP Steve Nash. It is a role that he is accustomed to, after making just 33 starts in 220 career games. For his career, Banks owns averages of 6.5 points and 2.5 assists.
"It’s a great team, especially with Boris Diaw stepping up and Raja Bell playing the way he does," Banks said. "They were one or two pieces away from a championship before and hopefully now I’m one of those pieces."
