Suns try to make it six straight wins vs. Warriors

01.7.2007

(Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns go for their sixth straight win when they host Pacific Division-rival Golden State tonight at US Airways Center.

This is the third of four meetings between the clubs this season. The Suns won the two previous contests, as they picked up wins at home and on the road.

Golden State has lost three straight and five of its last six at Phoenix.

Phoenix plays the second of a five-game homestand. Reigning MVP Steve Nash led a balanced Phoenix attack with 22 points, as the Suns continued their amazing surge with a 108-80 rout over the Miami Heat on Friday at US Airways Center.

Amare Stoudemire added 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Miami for the Suns, who have captured 23 of their last 26 contests following a 1-5 start to the campaign.

Shawn Marion collected 11 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix, which was without Raja Bell, who was suspended for one game for kicking Toronto forward Andrea Bargnani during Wednesday’s 100-98 win over the Raptors at Air Canada Centre.

Bell, who is averaging 15.2 points per game this season, is expected to be back on the court for the Suns tonight.

The Suns are 13-3 at home this season. They will also host Seattle, Cleveland and Orlando on the current homestand.

Golden State tries to make it back-to-back wins this evening. On Saturday, Baron Davis scored 22 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Warriors over the Seattle SuperSonics, 108-104, at ORACLE Arena.

Monta Ellis added 20 points and Mickael Pietrus had 16 points and 10 boards for the Warriors, who returned home after going 1-2 on a three-game road trip. Andris Biedrins tallied 15 points and 16 boards for Golden State, which has won six in a row at home.

The Warriors are just 4-12 on the road this season. After tonight’s contest, they return home for a three-game homestand. Golden State will host Orlando, Miami and the Clippers on the upcoming stand.
