Suns waive Scott Williams

01.28.2004

Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns waived center Scott Williams Wednesday after the 14-year veteran turned down an offer to join the team’s coaching staff, with the hopes of continuing his playing career.

"We are happy to accommodate Scott’s desire to be released in light of our current direction," said Suns president and general manager Bryan Colangelo. "Scott has made great contributions to our organization and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future."

Williams averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16 games this season with Phoenix, his second year with the club.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the Mavericks are interested in adding Williams to their roster for depth up front.

During his career, Williams has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets. He has averaged 5.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 700 career games.

The Suns fell 101-79 to the Indiana Pacers at Conseco Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
