Timberwolves look average

11.27.2006

(Basketball News) - All-Star forward Kevin Garnett is still one of the top players in the league, but that alone is not good enough to make the Minnesota Timberwolves a threat to make the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Garnett leads the club in scoring (21.5 ppg) and rebounding (11.9 rpg). The 30-year-old Garnett has scored in double-digits in all 12 games and has collected 10 double-doubles this season.

Minnesota is 6-6 this season and sit in third place in the Northwest Division. The Timberwolves trail the first-place Utah Jazz by five games in the division.

On Monday, the red-hot Dallas Mavericks try to make it 10 wins in a row when they welcome the Timberwolves to American Airlines Center. Minnesota has lost two straight and four of its last six at Dallas. The Mavericks have captured four of the last six contests in this series.

Minnesota has played well lately, as it will try and extend its winning streak to four games against the scorching Mavericks. Garnett poured in 25 points and rookie Randy Foye helped key a late run in the fourth quarter to lift the Timberwolves over the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-96, at the Target Center.

Garnett also pulled down 10 rebounds and Foye scored 14 of his 15 points in the final quarter in the win over the Clippers for the Timberwolves, who used a 15-0 run in the fourth quarter to help them earn the victory. Ricky Davis finished with 14 points and seven assists, while Mark Blount added 13 points for Minnesota, which outscored LA 35-15 in the final quarter.

The Timberwolves are 2-4 on the road this season. They will visit Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets on Tuesday at the Toyota Center. Minnesota has won four straight after losing its last four at Houston.

Minnesota will host Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets on Friday and will visit Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. The Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets, 112-109, on November 3rd at the Pepsi Center. They will meet the Sixers for the first time this season.
