Jason Kidd added 19 points, nine assists and eight boards while Richard Jefferson netted 18 for the Nets, who snapped a six-game losing skid.
Paul Pierce poured in 31 points and Wally Szczerbiak donated 25 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Celtics, who have lost three of their last four games.
Al Jefferson’s layup with 9 1/2 minutes on the clock gave the Celtics a 92-82 lead, but the Nets fought back with an 11-0 rally, including six points from Hasan Adams, to take a 93-92 margin.
Trailing 103-101, Jefferson gave New Jersey the lead for good with a three with 1:19 remaining.
The Celtics led 28-27 after the opening frame and took a 55-52 advantage into the half.
A pair of Nenad Krstic free throws brought the Nets within 63-62, but Boston ran off 14 unanswered points, including 10 off the hands off Pierce, extending the lead to 77-62.
However, New Jersey responded by tallying 14 of the final 21 points in the third quarter, with 10 coming from Kidd, to cut the deficit to 84-76 heading into the final frame.
