Nuggets continue swing in Beantown

12.15.2006

(Basketball News) - Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets resume their five-game road trip tonight against the Boston Celtics at TD Banknorth Garden.

The Nuggets are 1-2 on the trip and suffered a 120-91 loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night at the Verizon Center. Anthony had a game-high 37 points and eight rebounds to lead the Nuggets, who are 6-4 as the visitor this season.

Reggie Evans added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Marcus Camby had 12 points and seven boards for Denver, which fell behind early and never recovered. The Nuggets will also visit New York on the trip and are four games behind first- place Utah in the Northwest Division.

Boston, meanwhile, is one game behind New Jersey for the top spot in the Atlantic Division and has ripped off three straight wins.

On Wednesday the Celtics handed the struggling Philadelphia 76ers their ninth straight loss with a 101-81 drubbing at the Wachovia Center. Paul Pierce and Ryan Gomes each dropped in 18 points and Tony Allen added 16 for the Celtics, who defeated the Allen Iverson-less Sixers. Iverson will be traded soon and the Celtics are one of many teams reportedly interested in his services.

The Celtics are 3-8 at home and 5-5 away from TD Banknorth Garden this season.

Boston and Denver split a pair of meetings last season. The Nuggets have won three of the last four meetings.

Denver has lost 14 of its last 16 trips to Beantown.
