Report: Clippers to extend head coach Dunleavy 11.28.2006
|
The Los Angeles Times reported the extension on Tuesday, saying the deal will pay Dunleavy over $5.3 million a season. The paper added the deal is not yet official because Clippers executive vice president Andy Roeser and Dunleavy’s agent, Warren LeGarie, are still negotiating bonuses for the deal.
Dunleavy has increased the Clippers’ win total each year since he took over in 2003. Last season, the 52-year-old guided Los Angeles to 47 wins and its first playoff appearance in nine seasons.
The 1999 Coach of the Year while with Portland, Dunleavy and his Clippers were within one game of the Western Conference Finals before dropping Game 7 to the Phoenix Suns.
Dunleavy, who has also coached the Lakers and Milwaukee, is 516-530 in his coaching career, which includes a 6-6 mark so far this season. He also spent 11 years in the NBA as a player.
