Riley, D’Antoni named top coaches for February

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Miami Heat head coach Pat Riley and Phoenix Suns mentor Mike D’Antoni were named the Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.

Riley’s Heat went 8-2 and concluded the 28-day month with a six-game winning streak. Miami shot a league-high 51.6 percent from the field while holding opponents to 43.9 percent.

The Heat recorded a key 100-98 victory over the visiting Eastern Conference- leading Detroit Pistons on February. 12.

D’Antoni has the Suns on an NBA leading seven-game winning streak. The club’s latest victory came at Houston on February 27. Other key games included a 118-101 win over Chicago on February 4 and a 116-101 win at Denver on February 15 when the team recorded 33 assists.

Other nominees for the Coach of the Month award were Dallas’ Avery Johnson, Detroit’s Flip Saunders, Houston’s Jeff Van Gundy and Washington’s Eddie Jordan.
