"It’s a minor surgery just to clean out some things that went wrong during the season but I don’t expect it to hold me out of training camp or any of the [regular] season," said Pierce during a press conference to discuss his new deal.
Pierce has spent each of his eight NBA seasons with the Celtics, who made him the 10th overall pick of the 1998 NBA Draft after a standout collegiate career at Kansas. He has averaged 23.5 points with 6.5 rebounds and is the eighth- leading scorer in Celtics history.
Pierce, a five-time All-Star and team captain, averaged a career-high 26.8 points with 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists during the 2005-06 season.
"Moving forward now, knowing that Paul will be here with the collection of young guys that we have. I’ve said many times I don’t like where we’re at now but I like where we’re going," said Boston head coach Doc Rivers.
