Sixers go for third straight win

12.14.2004

Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - The Philadelphia 76ers will try to match their season-high three-game winning streak this evening, when they take on the Denver Nuggets at the Wachovia Center.

Philadelphia has won back-to-back games, including a 107-101 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks at home. Allen Iverson poured in a season-high 40 points and handed out 10 assists in the winning effort. Iverson has tallied at least 40 points 58 times in his nine-year career.

Kenny Thomas added 20 points and 17 rebounds for the Sixers, while Marc Jackson contributed a season-high 28 points in the victory. Philadelphia has gotten back on the winning track on the heels of a six-game losing streak.

Thomas has scored in double-digits in three straight and five of his last six games. He has recorded three double-doubles this season.

Philadelphia forward Corliss Williamson missed the contest due to a left knee injury. Williamson is listed as a game-time decision for tonight’s contest.

The Sixers have been solid at home this year, posting a 6-4 mark. Meanwhile, Philadelphia has struggled mightily against the Western Conference, going winless in seven contests.

Denver, which is in the middle of a season-long seven-game road trip, had a four-game winning streak stopped on Sunday as it fell 107-96 to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Carmelo Anthony paced the Nuggets with 26 points. Marcus Camby contributed 21 points and 14 boards, while Kenyon Martin finished with 18 points in the loss.

Anthony posted the 13th double-double of his young career. The Nuggets have dropped their last three trips to Madison Square Garden.

Anthony has scored more than 20 points in five straight games. He is averaging 26.6 points, six rebounds and 4.4 assists in that span.

Denver forward Nene bruised his right hip in the second quarter against New York and did not return. Nene is doubtful for tonight’s contest.

Nuggets guard Greg Buckner will be making his first return to Philly since being bought out of his contract in the offseason. Buckner is averaging a career-high 22.5 minutes per contest.

The Nuggets have tallied a 3-4 mark on the road and an 8-2 record versus the Eastern Conference.

Denver swept two meetings between these teams last season, including an 86-77 victory last December 12 in Philadelphia. The Nuggets have taken six of their last 10 meetings in this series, but has lost four of their last six trips to Philadelphia.
