08.10.2006

New York, NY (Basketball News) - NBA commissioner David Stern announced on Thursday that Michael Curry has been named vice president of basketball operations for the NBA.

Over the past 11 months, Curry has served as the vice president of player development for the NBA Development League.

In his new capacity, Curry will continue to handle all of the D-League’s player development programs and will now assume basketball operations responsibilities for the NBA.

A veteran of 11 NBA seasons, Curry served as president of the National Basketball Players Association from 2000 through 2004 prior to his retirement from the league in 2005.

"Michael is widely respected by teams and players in both the NBA and the D- League for his knowledge of the game and his leadership qualities," said NBA president of league and basketball operations Joel Litvin. "He has done a tremendous job for the D-League and this is a great opportunity for us to utilize his talents at the NBA level as well."
