New York, NY (Basketball News) - Detroit’s Ben Wallace, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and San Antonio’s Bruce Bowen highlight the 2005-06 NBA All-Defensive Teams.
Wallace is making his fifth consecutive appearance on the All-Defensive First Team, while Bowen, the leading vote getter, was named to the All-Defensive Team for the sixth-straight season.
The Sacramento Kings’ Ron Artest, the 2003-04 Defensive Player of the Year, joins Wallace and Bowen on the First Team, along with Andrei Kirilenko of Utah, Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers, and New Jersey’s Jason Kidd.
Wallace was the only player in the NBA to finish in the top 10 in rebounding (11.3 rpg), blocks (2.2 bpg) and steals (1.8 spg).
Bowen received 55 points out of a possible 60, while Wallace finished just behind Bowen with 54 points. Kirilenko and Artest picked up 44 and 30 points respectively while Bryant and Kidd each finished with 28 points.
The NBA All-Defensive Second Team consists of a pair of Detroit Pistons — Tayshaun Prince and guard Chauncey Billups — Denver’s Marcus Camby, Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett, and San Antonio’s Tim Duncan.
The voting panel consisted of the league’s 30 head coaches, who were asked to pick NBA All-Defensive First and Second Teams by position. The coaches were not permitted to vote for players from their own club.
