Wizards host struggling Nuggets

This is the second and final meeting of the season between the two clubs. The Nuggets defeated the Wizards, 108-87, on November 21, 2003 at the Pepsi Center.

The Nuggets come into tonight’s game on a three-game losing streak. Denver is currently in eighth place in the Western Conference playoff race, just one game ahead of the Utah Jazz. The last time the Nuggets appeared in postseason was 1995.

Denver dropped its third straight game on Tuesday, as it fell 103-94 to the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Pacers at the Pepsi Center. Rookie phenom Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points and hauled down eight rebounds in the loss.

Voshon Lenard and Andre Miller each posted 12 points, as Denver lost for the eighth time in nine games.

Anthony, who was born in New York City, was raised in Baltimore where he attended Towson Catholic High School before transferring to Oak Hill Academy.

The Nuggets, who have lost four straight as the visitor, are just 11-19 on the road this season.

The Washington Wizards dropped their second straight game on Sunday with a 99-86 setback to the New York Knicks at the MCI Center. Gilbert Arenas netted a game-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting for Washington, which has dropped two straight contests. Juan Dixon contributed 25 points as he was the only other Wizard to score in double-digits.

Even though Washington is 21 games under .500 (20-41), it is still only 6 1/2 games back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Arenas has scored 21 or more points in six straight contests and has averaged 28.7 points in that span.

The Wizards are 2-8 in Tuesday games this season.

Washington, which has lost six of its last 10 at home, is 14-18 as the host this season.

Denver has won two straight after losing the last four meetings in this series. The Nuggets have lost two straight and five of their last nine at Washington.
