East Rutherford, NJ (Basketball News) - Rookie Jameer Nelson scored a career- high 22 points to lead the Orlando Magic past the New Jersey Nets, 105-81, at Continental Airlines Arena. Steve Francis had a game-high 26 points for the Magic, who have won three straight on the heels of a three-game winning streak.
Dwight Howard had 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelvin Cato added 16 points for Orlando, which shot a sizzling 60-percent from the floor.
Vince Carter tallied 20 points in a losing cause for New Jersey, which has lost two straight overall. The 24-point setback was also the Nets’ fourth straight loss by 16 or more points.
Orlando wasted little time in getting the advantage and scored six straight points to start the game, while going ahead 8-1 in the early stages. The Magic’s lead would eventually swell to double digits and they carried a 29-15 lead into the second quarter.
In the second it was more of the same for Orlando, which was never really threatened. The Nets failed to get the deficit under 10 points in the quarter and went into the locker room trailing by 22, 59-37.
Francis and Nelson each had 15 points in the first half for the Magic, while Vince Carter’s 12 paced New Jersey.
Orlando continued to carry the momentum out of the break and outscored New Jersey, 26-22, in the third to take a 26-point advantage into the final 12 minutes.
The outcome of the contest was never in doubt in the fourth, as both teams emptied their respective benches and the Magic cruised to the 24-point win.
