Simien, who was the 29th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, polished off an outstanding career with Kansas by being named the Big 12 Conference Player of the year as a senior. Over the course of four seasons, Simien averaged 15.0 points to go along with 8.3 rebounds. He left Kansas as the school’s 12th all- time leading scorer (1,593) and seventh all-time leading rebounder (884).
In seven games with the Heat’s summer league squad, Simien netted 17.1 ppg, while hauling down 7.0 rpg.
The Heat remained busy on Friday, signing free-agent guard Gerald Fitch. Terms of the deal were not disclosed for Fitch, who netted 13.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in five summer league games with the Washington Wizards.
Fitch played collegiately at the University of Kentucky and averaged 11.0 ppg with 4.1 rpg. He ended his career 22nd all-time at Kentucky in points (1,391).
