The Answer Is: Go To Practice! By Marissa Avila 03.23.2004 - Updated on 09.10.2004
| Last time I checked the coach would lead his troops into battle, decided on who would be the starting five, sixth man and who would warm the seats for these players. There is no T in Allen Iverson, and that’s the problem. He took it up on himself to dictate his footsteps into the locker room to change into street clothes and sit the bench and watch his teammates lose because he was not going to start the game. Two words come to my mind cleaning house. As soon as the media saw his actions taking place there was no stopping the back lash. This is a very crucial stretch for any team, but no time for the point guard not to a show up for his job. To me it’s the same song and dance with A.I., and this time I want to give him some change for his dance number (Yeah). At 28 years of age I would think one would be too old to play the role of a super star high school point guard. I wonder how other players would have absorbed, something like this? It must be awkward to know that players can say and do what they want, some players; if you were a player coming off the bench and you pulled a stunt like this, you would be traded or find yourself sitting next to Dennis Rodman on an ABA bench. It’s so like A.I., I see this all-star player digging a hole that he might later on in life regret. But instead of dealing with his recent position change, he though it would be best to take himself out of the line up. "You’ve got to be careful if you don’t know where you’re going cause you might not get there" famous words said by Yogi Berra. I feel that the Philadelphia 76’s organization will make changes if antics like these continue to surface from their star player. I wonder if A.I. wants to be a part of this team anymore, or if he wants to be a part of any team. I don’t think A.I. has met a coach he has like or respected, and vice versa. I understand that A.I. is a man with many different sides, but hey do us all a favor if you’re not coming in, send a memo. But he does not run the show. Some players in the league need to understand there role, and know you can and will be replaced if your work ethic is not up to par. Now there are many things that we can’t knock about A.I. But basketball players must take notice, sorry but it’s not his team he does not own it, he doesn’t write checks out, he receives them. Is it fair for players to take on a role that they are not getting paid to do? A role they have not studied or worked for? In the words of Mr. Trump "you’re fired", might be catching up to him. With so much talent one would think he would marvel and dazzle us with his spectacular killer cross over. Now he’s looked at as being selfish and number 1 on the not-top ten list. |
