Where Is My Remote?

  By Marissa Avila

As I sat down to review the half-way point of the NBA season… for this has not been a blockbuster season so far. With TV ratings down, the NBA hoped LeBron James would be the savior. But Michael Jordan he is not; to me basketball fanatics are not watching games, they are watching their favorite teams play.

Has the league saturated the market with so many games that even the marquee games don’t live up to the hype that we find ourselves numb after watching? Who really wants to watch two teams who can’t score 100 points a piece? Take for example, Hawks vs. Magic. I want to believe, now that we have a better product with so many players changing jerseys this season, but that’s not the case. For every L.A. Lakers, there is a Miami Heat. Teams can’t blame coaches being fired, players being traded or injuries because all teams have the talent to play HARD every night and that’s what their fans expect for their dollar. Teams with leadership and a supporting cast have the incentive of a championship in their hearts and not in their wallets. Let’s hope with established stars the fusion of youth will find their way to LALA land for the All Star game. My wish would be to witness a potential blockbuster not another Gilgi. As the season progresses the cream always rises to the top. Teams will start jockeying for a playoff spot and home court advantage. Let’s all wish the East decides to send a contender this year; so the games will be watchable and finials won’t be so anticlimactic. Before you know it basketball would stop being entertainment and start being entertaining.
