Former NBA Star Eddie Johnson Sues For Defamation

Eddie Johnson, a former University of Illinois and NBA basketball star, has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Chicago Tribune and several other media outlets, who claimed he was a child molester.
The lawsuit alleges that in August 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that Johnson had been arrested for sexually assaulting an 8 year old girl and for residential burglary. The report also claimed that Johnson had a record for drug use, robbery, and resisting arrest.
According to the lawsuit, the Chicago Tribune made a big mistake because the person who was arrested for the crime (i.e., the allegedly bad Eddie Johnson) was someone else with the name Eddie Johnson. The superstar Eddie Johnson claims he could not have committed the crime because he was vacationing in Hawaii at the time with his family.
