Spurs try to remain hot in Oakland

02.2.2006

(Basketball News) - The San Antonio Spurs go for their sixth straight victory when they visit the Golden State Warriors tonight at The Arena in Oakland.

San Antonio, which will try and match its season-best winning streak with a victory this evening, plays the second of a season-long eight-game road trip. The Spurs, who won six in a row from November 29th to December 9th, have won five in a row as the visitor.

Tim Duncan scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, leading San Antonio to an 86-82 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday at the Rose Garden.

Manu Ginobili finished with 22 points, while Tony Parker netted 20 in the win over Portland for the Spurs, who have won nine of their last 10 contests overall.

The Spurs are 15-7 on the road this season. They will also visit Toronto, New Jersey, Indiana, Cleveland and Philadelphia on the current swing. San Antonio defeated the Utah Jazz, 79-70, on Monday at the Delta Center in the opener of the swing.

Golden State will try and get back on the winning track as it begins a three- game homestand this evening. On Wednesday, Ray Allen scored 32 points to lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 111-107 victory over the Warriors at KeyArena.

Baron Davis finished with 35 points and nine assists, and drained two three- pointers in the final 20 seconds to allow Golden State a chance to get back into the game after being outscored 29-9 in the third quarter. Troy Murphy posted 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Andris Biedrins scored a career-high 16 points in the loss to Seattle for the Warriors, who have dropped five of their last six games overall.

On the injury front for Golden State, high-flying guard Jason Richardson (back) is questionable for tonight’s game. He has missed three straight contests with the injury. The 6-6 Richardson is the Warriors leading scorer (22.8 ppg).

The Warriors, who will host Minnesota on Saturday and Denver on Monday in the finale of the homestand, are 12-12 as the host this season. They have won three of their last five at The Arena.

San Antonio has won 11 of its last 14 games at Golden State.

The home team has won six of eight and 10 of the last 13 contests in this series, while San Antonio has won four straight and five of the last six meetings.
