Shaq signs endorsement deal with Chinese sneaker company Li-Ning

08.16.2006 - Updated on 08.18.2006

Shaq announced he just signed a five year deal with Chinese sneaker company Li-Ning.

Former Heat teammate Damon Jones was the first player to sign a deal with Li-Ning back in January 2006.

"When my friend Damon Jones became an endorser, I saw the shoes he was wearing were very unique and trendy,’’ O’Neal said during a news conference in Beijing. "It appealed to me and many other NBA fans."

"We chose O’Neal based on his influence and expertise in basketball," Li Ning, Chairman of the Board of Li-Ning Company. "He is one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time and our co-operation will bring everything possible to China’s basketball fans."

It is unknown whether Li-NIng is contemplating US sneaker market or will concentrate on Chinese market only.

Financial terms for the Li-Ning contract were not immediately available.
