A Look At Chris Lofton

A Look At Chris Lofton

Chris Lofton is 6’2, 200 pounds, and is a senior at Tennessee. The first thing you’ll notice about Chris is his ability to shoot the ball.

He can make a shot from basically anywhere on the court. He is a really good mid-range shooter, and also has a very good consistent three point shot. He takes nice shot selections, and he can be very clutch. Chris has become one of the best players in college, he is a true underdog as well, people knew he had the potential, but some were not sure if he could reach it. But despite what people say about him, he continues to work hard and show heart. Chris works hard to keep in good shape, and to keep his body strength at a solid level. He is very competitive and never backs down from a challenge. He is a good slasher and is very good at creating his own shots. Chris is very mature and shows great leadership skills. He is a solid ball handler and passer.

Chris lacks size and quickness, and therefore is stuck in a tough spot, he doesn’t have the skill set yet to be a full time point guard, and some scouts are not sure if he’ll be as effective at the shooting guard spot in the NBA due to his lack of size, and not being sure if he can match up against NBA shooting guards for a long period of time. His defense is ok, he is a good man defender, and has quick hands, and solid foot speed, but still not as quick as many other guards. He struggles against bigger guards and gets caught in tough situations. The key things he does in college may or may not carry over to the NBA for him, like the ability to create his own shot, and not being as athletic he’ll be a step behind many others.

I like watching Chris Lofton play, but when I look at him as far as his NBA potential, it is hard to define his role, sometimes I feel he can be a David Wesley and Daniel Gibson type player, being able to do a little bit from both guard spots and having a meaningful impact on a team. Then other times I feel he’ll be an off the bench situation shooter and will struggle to get playing time like J.J. Redick. But what I do know is that Chris will not let what’s being said about his potential hinder him, he’ll continue to work hard and to be successful and prove doubters wrong. If somehow the NBA does not work out for him, his style would fit perfect in Europe.

Right now Chris Lofton’s draft position is borderline for me, if he has another great season I feel he’ll probably be a first rounder, but if he doesn’t do as well, I think he could fall into the second round.

Chris Lofton, will be the Kenny Lofton of the NBA. A good player, but he’ll bounce around on every team in the league before his career is done with. I will say in order for him to have a long NBA career, he will need to become that D.Wesley/D.Gibson type combo guard. I agree he is a true underdog and I will be pulling for him, Chris is a good guy, and deserves some respect for what he has pulled off the last few years .

Chris could be player of the year this season. He’ll be an all-american, lead his team deep in the NCAA Tourney, and he’ll have good pre-draft workouts, and he’ll be a late first rounder. He is a hard worker and nothing will stop him from being a successful pro player .

I do love watching Chris Lofton play, but he reminds me of J.J. Redick, and looking at J.J.’s first year, it doesn’t look good for small limited shooters like them .

I’ll say it here, Chris will be a second rounder no matter what type of season he has. All he will be in the NBA is a clutch shooter, and garbage minute man. At best he’ll be a once in a while contributing player, that’s all. If he wants a meaningful career he’ll go oversees and have better success over there .

I think Chris will have another great season, and lead the Vols deep in the tourney. But as talented as he is, I do agree with the assement that he may not be the same type of player in the NBA as he was in college. I hope he atleast turns out to be like Daniel "booby" Gibson .
