A Look at Paul Harris

A Look at Paul Harris
Paul Harris is a 6’5", 230-pound sophomore at Syracuse. Paul definitely plays bigger than his height. He is very athletic and versatile, and a very good rebounder. He has good body strength to post up and battle in paint. Paul is a very competent defender, and he uses his quick reflexes, long arms, and hustle to his advantage. With his speed and ball-handling ability in the open court, he is particularly effective in transition. Paul is capable of playing some point guard as a strong passer and smart decision-maker with the ball in his hands. With his leaping ability, Paul can throw down some excellent dunks in traffic. He is capable of drawing fouls when driving to the basket, and is a great finisher.

One of Paul’s downfalls is his shooting: He can be very inconsistent, and he lacks range on his jumper. What’s more, he has a hard time creating shots off the dribble. His three-point and free throw shooting are also in need of improvement. He seems to have a lack of confidence in his shooting abilities, but when he is confident his mid-range shot is fairly solid. Another concern is Paul’s character as he has had a few off-court issues, having spent some time in jail, subsequently being put on probation and being ordered to take anger management classes. However, he has generally had a positive experience thus far at Syracuse, focusing on school, basketball and being a role model to those around him.

Paul had a solid freshman year on the court and will be expected to step up and assume a greater role this season. He should also benefit by playing with his high school friend, freshman Johnny Flynn, as well as having freshman Donte Greene and junior Eric Devendorf helping to shoulder some of the load. I feel it would be best for Paul to stay in college for the full four years and continue to develop his basketball skills in an environment that will give him the best chance of staying out of trouble and maturing as an individual.

One scout I spoke with said, "If Paul could master his shooting skills, he could be a top shooting guard prospect, and maybe become a Quentin Richardson-type player as a pro". As of now, I believe Paul has some similarities with Jerry Stackhouse offensively, and James Posey defensively.

I agree wit Kimah on this one. I’m not sure if Paul will overcome those shooting woes. Of course I hope he does, I don’t wish bad on no one, but he seems like he’ll get a lot of points off put-backs, lay-ups, and dunks. I like some of the other things he has to offer though. Hopefully he does stay as long as possible, and gets the most out of college .

I must admit, I don’t think Paul will EVER get his jump shot to where it should be. He is gonna be a dunker, and inconsistent mid-range shooter throughout his career. His tough defense, and some other things like ball-handling and rebounds, will help him be an active player on a team. So personally I feel he’ll be a high 2nd pick, with his lack of shooting abilities .

Paul Harris, Eric Devendorf, Johnny Flynn, Donte Greene, and Josh Wright. Are all quality players for the Orangemen. They should take 3rd place in the Big East. But a major part of their success will relie on how well Paul plays. I have heard many scouts say he is one of the biggest question marks in college hoops, because the skill level is there, but is it consistent enough to be considered a first round talent. Hopefully he gets that jumper together, that’s what’s really holding his potential back. I’m sure that’s what he spent most of his summer doing is working on his jump shot. Hopefully he’ll be one of the biggest surprises this season and develop that Q-Rich shooting skills, he is definitely an interesting player to watch .

Paul has great defensive skills, I think he could be one of the best defenders in college. I hope it will carry over in the pros. My nickname for him on defense is PH-D. I also love the spectacular dunks he does. If he can improve his jump shot, and fine tool his skills to become a complete player, he will undoubably be one of the top shooting guard prospects and hopefuly a top 20 selection, when he enters the draft .

I thought he was Ricky Davis twin for a second, don’t they look-alike! But anyway, I like the way Paul plays, I’m going to say he’ll come out after his Junior year, I think he might be ready then, but I could be wrong. But he is a future NBA player no doubt about it! .

Hopefully Paul has overcome his battles. Will continue to do great things at Syracuse. And become a successful pro, and fulfill his potential, as a top shooting guard .

I agree it would be best for Paul to stay all 4 years. But as a big fan of his, I kind of want to see him come out after this season, if he puts up solid stats .
