A Review of Jeffrey Jordan 12.21.2007 - Updated on 12.21.2007
 | | | | | | | | | | As many people know, Jeffrey Jordan is the oldest son of basketball legend Michael Jordan. Jeffrey is a freshman at Illinois and joined the basketball team as a walk-on. He wasn’t highly recruited coming out of high school and only received mild interest from colleges. Valparaiso and Loyola University offered him basketball scholarships, with Davidson, Bowling Green, Northwestern, Penn State, George Washington, and Illinois giving him strong consideration. Jeffrey has always been a good academic student, often making the honor roll, and so Illinois offered him an academic scholarship. At first Jeffrey said he didn’t want to be a walk-on anywhere, and play behind starters for three or four years. But later he decided he wanted to stay close to home, and be on a high-level college team, so he took Illinois academic offer, with the opportunity to walk onto the basketball team and work hard for playing time. Jeffrey said "Being a walk-on motivates me, I always feel like I have something to prove when I come out here. To my coaches, the fans, and my teammates". Jeffrey has also said being like his father motivates him, but from the standpoint of knowing how hard his dad worked after he was cut from the varsity team in high school, and always putting in full effort to improve his skills at whatever he was doing. Jeffrey said "Instead of being known as my dad’s son, which is probably always going to be there, I want to be known for my basketball skills". He also said "It’s definitely a lot of pressure that comes with the name Jordan, and everyone comparing us, but hopefully people really understand that we are two different people, with different skills, so I’ll never be exactly like my dad". Jeffrey is 6’1", 185 pounds and majoring in psychology. On the court Jeffrey is a good scorer, a very good defender, a solid rebounder, and has good court vision. He is a fundamentally sound player, with a solid all-around game. For his size he is a physically strong guard. He has a solid-mid range jump shot. He has a very quick first step going right, although he is left-handed. He is a pass-first guard, who likes to get his teammates involved. He is a good decision-maker. He likes to drive to the basket and tries to draw fouls, and he is a good finisher at the basket with either hand. Jeffrey is definitely blessed with his father’s athleticism, especially his vertical leaping abilities. He still has to get the skill level and knowledge to become a full-time point guard. His coach Bruce Weber said "The process is coming along well, and he just needs to make the strides there and continue to work on his skill development, like most young players". So far this season Jeffrey has played in 6 games, playing a total of 35 minutes, averaging 5.8 minutes a game. He is 0-7 shooting from the field, 0-1 in three-point shooting, and 3-6 at the free throw line. Jeffrey has 2 rebounds and is averaging 0.3 ppg. Currently Jeffrey is listed as the number 6 guard on the team. As of right now, I think Jeffrey could be an Antonio Daniels- type player in the NBA, and if he develops a good three point shot, he could be a more athletic version of Derek Fisher. I always enjoy watching Jeffrey play, and you can see the passion he has for the game of basketball and wanting to succeed in it on his own terms. I look forward to watching him as he pursues his goals in basketball, as well as becoming his own man. |

Posted by Jeffrey Minnesota on 01.4.2008 | I have never sen him play, but he sounds like a solid player. He’ll probably have a career in pro hoops somewhere, he’ll get some opportunities . | Posted by Juan Carlos Mattias on 01.3.2008 | I have a feeling Jeffrey will have a pro hoops career overseas. I hope he gets into the NBA though . | Posted by Keedar Cook on 12.31.2007 | All I can say it is it will be interesting to see him play and develop into a good college player, and see if he can make it to the nba in the future. It is going to take alot of hard work for sure . | Posted by Bobby B on 12.30.2007 | I heard Marcus is better than Jeffrey, but both have skills enough to get legit shots at making it to the nba. Good luck to the younger Jordan kids in trying to reach the nba like pops. I believe you can do it . | Posted by Shannon A (BG) on 12.29.2007 | He would have been a star at Bowling Green. But I respect in decision and hope for the best. . | Posted by Yeah I Said It on 12.28.2007 | His dad is a crappy GM he selected Kwame Brown #1, and has had made other terrible decisions. It wouldn’t surprise me if he selected his son at a high draft spot or traded half the team to get him. Michael Jordon should never do 5 things: Get married without a prenup, gamble, play baseball, make comebacks after 40, and shouldn’t run an NBA franchise. As for his son Jeffrey, he won’t make it in pro hoops without pops help. He should either get ready to put that psychology degree to use, or kick back and B.S. until his inheirtence kicks in. . | Posted by D.Macc on 12.27.2007 | sorry dougi: I meant to direct that towards mrhoopfan . | Posted by D.Macc on 12.27.2007 | dougi: Eric Gordon scores big on everyone. To base one player’s performance off another is not accurate. Being a D-3 player is not going to make him any better, it just gives him big stats. He knew he needed to prove himself at a high level to earn the respect in hoops, without having to relie on his dad’s name. He made a good choice by playing at Illinois, for a good coach in Bruce Weber. Jeffrey will have a solid college career there and he will play in the nba one day, it may not be as a superstar, or all-star but he has the skills to become a great role player . | Posted by on 12.27.2007 | that whole jordan family is amezing at basketball, jeffery has nothin to worry about he’ s a great player, marcus is good to . | Posted by Reel Lyfe on 12.27.2007 | I believe Jeffrey will have the similar route as former Illinoi Dee Brown. He could be a late second round pick. Spend one to two years sitting on an NBA bench. And eventually will end up in the D-League or Overseas util he racks up big numbers and another NBA team possibly gives him a shot . | Posted by dougi on 12.27.2007 | his dad michaelis famous so jeffreycould be like his dadmike . | Posted by mrhoopfan on 12.24.2007 | The kid stinks, Eric Gordon dropped darn near 50 on him in high school and he had like 4. He’d be a very good DIII player. If his last name wasn’t Jordan............. . | Posted by Mr. West on 12.22.2007 | Frist "His Airness" is not going to give his son special treatment, that’s not his style. Jeffrey is a good player, and he should have been more heavily recruited. He will have a future in pro basketball, there is no doubt about it. . | Posted by B.J. Gordon on 12.22.2007 | I’m calling it right now, by sometime next season, Bruce Weber will have Jeffrey be the starting guard. Or he’ll atleast make his way up to being the 6th man. You is a hard worker and he has skills, coach will have no choice but to give his a promotion . | Posted by 23-45-13 on 12.22.2007 | George Karl didn’t do it with Coby, although he was thinking about doing it. Coby earned his own spot with the Lakers. I think if you truly have talent, then you don’t need your dad who is in a high position to give you help. MJ is not the type of person who would just hand his son a chance unless he really earned it. He wants his son to work hard for the thing he wants, that keeps him level headed, which Lil J has shown so far, and I think will continue to do in his life . | Posted by Bob Tha Cat on 12.22.2007 | anybody think 4 years from now, that his dad will pick Jeffrey up to give him a chance on the Bobcats? I’m sure some people are thinking it. . | Posted by home is where the heart is at on 12.22.2007 | I’m surprised that more college’s didn’t jump at the chance to add them to their team. Not because of his team, but because he is a pretty good player. He was an all-american, he made his team better, he plays well on both sides of the court, he’s everything you look for in a player. I think many teams are going to regret doing that, just like the Trail Blazers not selecting his dad. I think it would be great to see Jeffrey play for the bulls one day . | Posted by Chicago Hoops#1 on 12.22.2007 | Jeffrey Jordan is a solid player for sure. I agree he is only going to get better. I love his upside, and I look forward to watching him make a name for himself in the hoops world as Jeffrey Jordan the basketball player, and not Jeffrey Jordan the son of nba hoops legend Michael Jordan . | Posted by KING MIKE on 12.22.2007 | I SEEN JEFFREY PLAY NUMEROUS TIMES AND I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.....HIS GAME IS VERY SOLID, OFFENSE AND DEFENSE AND HE’S ONLY GOING TO GET BETTER. EVERYBODY KNOWS HE’S NOT (MICHAEL) BUT WHO CARES...AS LONG AS HE MAKES A NAME FOR HISSELF IS ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME. . | Posted by Chad Garber on 12.22.2007 | I watched Jeff play one time, unfortunately I caught him on a bad day. But I have heard positive things about him, and he seems solid according to the scouting report. I think this is a great story to hear, I’m sure the whole world knows MJ, but not many know JJ. So this gives many people introduction and something to keep an eye in the future . | 1 2 Next >
