A Scouting Report on Serge Ibaka

Serge Ibaka is 6’10", 220 pounds, he is from the Congo, but is currently playing in Spain. Serge is a very hard worker at practice and in games. He has great physical tools, and has a solid NBA body. He is very athletic and has great length and leaping abililites. Serge is a good rebounder and a very good shot blocker. He has some decent post moves, and he continues to improve his skill-set in the post. Serge has a decent jump shot, he likes to shoot the turnaround jumper, he has extended his shot past the three point line, and he has a solid mid-range jumper as well. Serge can throw down some tremendous dunks and watching him do it is exciting. Serge is still improving his ball handling and passing skills. Serge still needs to add more muscle and strength, adding 20-pounds would be perfect, and so far adding weight hasn’t been a problem for him. There are times when Serge relies too much on his jump shot and his athletic skills, instead of mixing his game up, and using some fundamentals. Serge also needs to develop some consistency, at times he looks like two different players. Serge tends to get into foul trouble and he racks up too many unecessary fouls. Many scouts are loving his upside and consider him a legit NBA prospect. Serge’s Spanish agent Gerard Darnes, said he is entering the 2008 NBA draft for sure. Overall Serge is quite a talent, he is still developing his all-around game, but his potential looks very good. As a best case scernario he could be a Shawn Kemp type-player, and as worst case a Tyrus Thomas type-player. Serge will most likely be a top 20 pick in the draft.

I recently got to watch him play, and I thought he was a remarkable talent. I’m pretty sure he will be a top 20 selection and have a solid NBA career .

I hope he is one of the rare players born in africa to have success in the NBA. Many players from there don’t usually develop or pan out as good as they should. I’m pulling for him, it sounds like the talent is there .

I think he definitely needs to add some more weight and strength, to be a good effective PF in the NBA. He could be a pretty solid player 4-5 years from now, if he develops right .

If this kid lives up to his potential he could definitely be a Shawn Kemp caliber player. He is a fun player to watch when he mixes his game up .
