D.J. Strawberry Turning Sour

D.J. Strawberry Turning Sour

Today I want to discuss D.J. Strawberry, a player I have really enjoyed watching since his senior year in high school. D.J. had a disappointing finish in his college career. Not only was he known for being the son of former MLB star Darryl Strawberry, but D.J. was known for becoming a solid NBA pro.

But now his stock has dropped big time, where he might not even get drafted. To me right now he may be taking the Gerry McNamara route, not getting drafted, go overseas and not like it, come back to the states, play in the NBDL, and try getting in the NBA from there.

D.J is a versatile guard, who defends really well. He is an average three point and free throw shooter. D.J. is really good at going to the basket and drawing fouls. He is a good ball-handler, a vocal leader on the court helping teammates in the right spots. Strawberry needs to become a better finisher when going to the basket, improve his ball-handling skills when leading from the point guard position, and work on taking pressure off his other teammate as a shooting guard, so he can help create shots for them. He also needs to improve his jump shot.

So basically D.J. should be working everyday to improve his offensive game big time and ASAP. His defensive skills will be his money maker, most likely coming off the bench in defensive situations. As of right now I see Strawberry being a role-playing guard, that could be a journeymen throughout his pro career.

I think he will be good as a pro, he is a versatile wingman who could play at three positions, and could play in the half court or the full court, and is great at man-to-man defense, using his exceptional quickness and athleticism, and is a master of creating havoc, turnovers, by collecting a lot of steals. He isn’t a great shooter, but is a good penetrator who passes well as evidenced by his good assist to turnover ratio, and in transition; there are players in the league who aren’t good shooters, like Eric Snow, Quinton Ross, and Rajon Rondo who made the All-Rookie 2nd team this past year. Strawberry could be a sleeper if he excepts his role as a complimentary defensive role player and that could be how he makes the NBA a la Ronnie Brewer style. However, he needs to work on his shot selection, and not take up so many bad 3s. .

I loved watching D.J. play at Maryland and have a good college career. I don’t think he will be that good as a pro, hopefully he will find a team to stick with at least after his first 3 years. I wish the best for D.J., but sadly i see him as a mid-2nd round draft pick. .

Every article that Lance has written, I agree with, all his points are valid, and may very well turn out the way, he says. He is alot better than most draft coverage people. Keep being real Lance, you’re awesome! .

I think Strawberry will bounce around many teams and leagues, before he becomes a consistent role player. .

No Doubt, Lance, I see D.J struggling to find his niche in the league, if he even gets there. .

Once again, I agree with Lance, D.J. has a some hard work ahead of him, he wants to make it in the pros. .
