Lets Brew Some Corey 04.17.2007 - Updated on 04.17.2007
 | | | | | | | | | | OK, I know that’s a corny title but I’ve been up all night so my mind isn’t really creative right now, or maybe I’m thinking about making coffee, either way it doesn’t matter I’ll just stick to what I know and that’s how Corey Brewer plays basketball. Corey Brewer is 6’9, 185 pounder, who was the most outstanding player in the final four. His stock has gone up rapidly as of late, with his good all-around play. Corey was already known as one of the best defenders in the country so that’s no suprise, but what is surprising is how well he has been offensively showing significant improvement. The biggest issue though right now is his weight, he needs to add some bulk on his skinny frame ASAP, that would help his stock some for the draft, but he’ll still no doubt be a top 15 pick. His length and quickness will allow him to be very versatile in different positions. Corey is a good slasher to the basket, can hit open threes and can be creative. But Corey also can be careless at times by shooting the ball too much without thinking if it’s a smart shot to take, and he also likes to dribble too much and the end result is usually a turnover. He needs to learn how to keep the ball moving and let plays develop, he can off as selfish at times. Corey has alot of athleticism, is good at deflecting and stealing the ball. He needs to become stronger mentally and be a better decision maker, he tends to make wild passes, takes bad shots, over-dribbles, can commit too many fouls, and turns the ball over often. When his mind id totally focused on playing the game as Larry Brown would say "the right way" he can be a sound all-around player. His perimeter jumper still needs some work, he needs to improve his ball handling skills he has no left hand handles. He also tries to use spin moves on people and cross people over, notice the word TRIES meaning he’s not very sucessful at it. Corey has alot of energy on the floor and teammates can feed off that. I don’t believe Corey has reached his full potential yet, he has alot of room for improvement, coming back a final year would’ve helped him, but his MVP tournament performance also helped him for this year. Corey reminds me of Demarr Johnson, but he’ll probably have more of a productive career than Demarr. |
