Marco Belinelli is a highly regarded Italian prospect, who is 6’6, 192 pounds. Currently he is under contract 2008, and he really wants to come to the NBA as a player ready to contribute. If an NBA team selects him they may have to wait until his current contract expires, unless Marco can reach an agreement to get out of it early.
He can play both guard positions, but likes to be in control and is a hard worker most of the time. He is a good shooter off the dribble, is a good slasher, and a great finisher in the open court. He is a good catch and shoot player from anywhere on the court, and is a natural scorer. He has great ball-handling skills, and he has a variety of cuts and fakes to get open with. He has alot of quickness and leaps real well. He is able to thrown down nice dunks with his athleticism, he plays with alot of intensity and not afraid of more physical players nor he is afraid of pressure situations. He is a good defender that can keep up with any guard, and he has a high basketball IQ.
Marco needs to work on his conditioning he tends to get tired by mid season. He should work on being more aggressive going to the basket to draw fouls. He is not a very good rebounder, he still shoots inconsistently and can be careless with the ball and should protect it better. He lacks upper body strength, could have better court vision and needs to learn how to play PG at a high level, because the people he plays with lack quality skills so he dominates easily due to it.
Overall Marco Belinelli has a lot of skills and could make an impact in the NBA, I haven’t mentioned him before because it was hard to say when he may be able to come here and play. As a best case scenario I say he’ll be like a Mike Miller and as a worst case Rafer Alston. The downside is he had a terrible season this year and it probably hurt his stock.
