Part Three International Prospects Report

Here are players five and six on my list of top 10 international prospects 20 and under.

5. Tim Ohlbrecht: Is 6’11, 228 pounds, 18 years old from Wuppertal, Germany.

He can play four different positions. He has great fundamentals. He is athletic, quick, and has decent frame on his body. He is a decent rebounder and a very good shot blocker. He has polished moves in the post and he finishes well around the basket. He has solid ball handling and passing skills, and good court vision. He runs the floor very well, and plays half court and transition ball pretty well. He has a very consistent jump shot. He is a solid defender.

Tim does have a habit of picking up silly fouls. He can be an inconsistent scorer. He can be too laid back and hopefully he’ll show more passion and aggression in the future. The competition he played against hasn’t been very challenging for him yet. He sort of reminds me of Charlie Villanueva.

6. Omri Casspi: Is 6’8, 220 pounds, 19 years old from Rehovot, Israel.

He has real deep shooting range. He prefers to shoot than slash, but he has skills to slash to the basket. He is good one on one, he does a great job of getting to the basket and finishing well after contact. He has a great short-range jumper. He passes the the ball well in transition, he is pretty explosive and runs the floor well. He is a good perimeter shooter. He is capable of getting steals and scoring points after the steal. He has pretty good awareness.

He is not a very good rebounder. He doesn’t play defense with a passion, he basically just looks to get back on the end to score points. I believe he could be a star player in Europe, and just a solid NBA player. He will need to play good and stand out these next couple years to have NBA teams consider him a legit prospect. I see similarities between him and Adam Morrison.

Israel is more known for pick-up basketball internationally than the US and Americans don’t realize how good some of the young israeli player are, Raviv Limonad, Yotam Halperin, Omri Casspi, Anton Shoutvin, Yogev Ohannon ect. I’ve seen Omri Casspi play 10-15 times and he’s something special. They say he’s 6-8 or 6-9 without shoes so he’s an nba 6-10 or 6-11 and the most agile and coordinated athlete I’ve ever seen at the height. He shoots a lot because three defenders would rather jam the lane and give Casspi an open shot. He’s more of an nba style of player but his critics say that an israeli couldn’t fit in the nba culture. He has 30+ ppg 60% fg potential. He already 230 lbs now with the athletic ability of a dear. At 18 he beat Maccabi and nearly upset Maccabi again in the final four. He’s played against both Michael Beasley and Nicolas Batum and he was the better player. .

I agree to most of your thoughts on the European Prospects but I don’t know what happened to you the day you wrote those two profiles. I don’t know where came to you the idea that Tim Ohlbrecht can play 4 positions? Where did you see him play taht you think he can play one day a SF or even SG?Secondly, I really don’t know how you can compare Omri Casspi to Adam Morrison? .

I just heard reports today that Omri Casspi is the real deal, and is officially the best prospect in Israel. They say he has been through alot, and still has a tough battle ahead of him, but he is a legit prospect to make it to the nba. I haven’t heard of him until today, but looking at his profile he looks to be like a solid player. .

I agree with Omarey, if it isn’t Omri’s dream to play in the nba, than he should play in Europe if his game fits that style of play better, where he could be a star, and make more money and be more successful. But I’m starting to think it’s all basketball players dream to play at the highest level in the nba .

I have to agree with Lance. I think Omri would be a star career player in Europe, and just a decent role player in the NBA. If it’s not Omri’s passion and dream to play in the NBA, I think he’d be better off playing in Europe and reaping the benefits over there .

Tim will NEVER be the next Dirk, I think the people who say that are idoits. I think comparing him to Charlie V is much more senseable .

Casspi does sound like Adam Morrison. Hopefully Casspi will atleast develop some defense .

Many analyst have said Casspi is a legit prospect to make the nba in the future, I continue to hear great reports about him. I’m interested in seeing how he plays. I can’t really comment on Ohlbrecht I have never heard of him, nor seen him play. But based on this scouting report he seems like a solid player,I’d also like to see him play in the future as well .

Alot of us over here in Germany, believe Tim can become the next Dirk, which is Tim’s idol. They have some similarities in their game, but I think for now Charlie Villanueva is a solid player to compare Tims style of play with. Maybe 3 years from now we’ll also see great things out of Tim and see him become a star on the court .

I’ve heard some nice things about Casspi’s game. But I haven’t heard of Tim Ohlbrecht yet, but he sounds like a pretty good player as well .
