Ty Lawson Profile

Ty Lawson is 5’11, 190 pounds and is a sophomore at North Carolina. He has a well built body which allows him to handle contact pretty well.

He is very competitive, he likes to play with all out hustle, he likes to play physical and with aggressiveness. He is very quick with the ball in his hands and he likes to push the ball up the floor. He has a quick first step, he likes to drive to the basket and he is good at finishing at the basket as well. He has great passing abilities and solid court vision, he is pretty athletic, and has good strength. He does well creating space, and he has a pretty consistent three point shot. Ty’s defensive skills can still use some work, but sometimes it is because he lacks the size to match up against bigger guards.

Ty is still learning how to manage the point guard position, so he is not fully developed yet, but his upside looks good. Sometimes Ty can get carried away with trying to do too much, he needs to calm down in certain situations. He doesn’t have very long arms. His offensive game is still coming along, he is working on his shot off the dribble, but he is a solid spot up mid-range shooter, and he is good at getting layups. Right now Ty is more of a playmaker, than a scorer, but I think he will be doing both consistently sooner than later. Overall Ty has the skills to become one of the best point guards in college. He played very well his freshman year, and should have even a bigger year this season, not only with his stats, but with his development as well.

Some scouts feel if Ty has a solid season, he might decide to turn pro for the "08" draft. I would like to see him play in college all four years, but regardless of when he comes out he’ll probably be at top 20 pick. As a best case scenario Ty could be like Terrell Brandon, and as a worst case Jose Calderon.

You gotta throw my boy Dominic James in the PG mix as well. I definitely agree with Reggie about Ty being talented, but he really does have to stay on his sh*t, put a pamper on him, he gotta have the toilet paper on the side for example homie, if he is still gonna be on the upper-tier of the PGs who are gonna be drafted in the next couple of seasons. I think TY will have a good season and leave for the "08" draft, he’ll probably be the 3rd or 4th PG taken .

Ty’s got talent but he’s got some major competition at the PG position as far as the draft goes if I had to rank him he’d be #4, with D.Rose-1, O.J.-2, D.Collison-3, Ty-4, D.J. Augustin-5, J.Bayless-6, D.Neitzel-7, plus the international PG’s. So Ty has got to stay on top of his game if he is gonna stay out more than the rest of them. He benefits by playing in a system that fits his game. Playing with a team that has great pieces to allow him to be good. Oh yeah and their is also his God given talent. I believe whenever he comes out he should atleast a top 20 pick, I’m looking forward to watching him play this season him and Tyler H are gonna be the leaders .

UNC fo life! Ty will either leave this season or after next season. I think he wants to try and be a top 10 pick, which he has a good shot to do. He is one of the best talented, even though their are many talented PGs they can come out when he comes out. I think his size may be a disadvantage, because alot of his competition are bigger and just as athletic. He did a solid job last season .

I believe Ty will become that playmaker and scorer this season. Even as a sophomore I think he’ll take on a great leadership role, and he could very well led the Tar Heels to the championship. He could be this years Mike Conley Jr, atleast that’s what I’m hoping for .

I like what I saw from Ty last season, and I to agree his upside looks bright. He is playing for the right coach (Roy Williams) to help him develop and utilize his talents to the fullest .

I’m with you Lance I would like to see Ty play 4 years as well. But in this day and age, the truly talented don’t stay for long. I think he is gonna have a major year .
