Kansas sophomore Julian Wright, who vowed all season to return for his junior year, and promised his mother that he wouldn’t leave college early without a degree, is now considering entering the NBA draft.
Sources say that Wright has asked KU’s coaching staff to explore where he would be selected should he make himself eligible for the draft this year. NBA scouts have said all season that Wright would be among the top 10 players picked this year, if he decided to leave school early. Julian Wright is 6’8, 210 pounds and plays both forward spots, but in the NBA would be a small forward. He scored 12 pts, grabbed 8 boards, and dished out 2 last a game this season.
Defensively Julian is versatile, has non-stop energy, and uses all his physical tools. He has alot of athleticism and length, great court vision, and the smarts and quickness to make it tough for his opponents. He hasn’t developed a consistent way to score, but has shown signs of dominance. He has a great wingspan, nice body control, toughness, determination, and very alert to put himself in the right places at the right time. When going to the basket he finishes great, and he moves off the ball real well. Wright is also committed to doing the little things to help his team win. He has a very inconsistent jump shot, that he is working to improve, he also could improve on his ball-handling skills, he is a decent passer.
Wright is already a good basketball player, but once he becomes a complete consistent player, his potential is skys the limit and with his work etnic it could be sooner than later. My advice for Juilian would be work on your perimeter game, and develop some low-post moves, and the rest of the skills will develop even more with age. Right now Julian is compared to players like Boris Diaw and Andrei Kirilenko at his best and Damien Wilkins at his worst. I enjoy watching Julian Wright play, and to me whenever he decides to come out, he should be a top 10 pick.
