Drew Neitzel is 6’0, 185 pounds and will be a senior at Michigan State. He improved his scoring by 10 points a game last season.
Drew has become one of the best point guards in college basketball. He has good court vision, is a good passer, and he runs the offense well. He likes to keep his teammates involved and create easy shots for them. He can shoot the ball with either hand from nice range, he has a good three point shot, and he is a good free throw shooter. He is a hardworker in practice and in games giving 100% of his effort. He is very quick and he likes to attack the basket to draw fouls. He is a smart player and a good leader and also very competitive. He plays well in big games and he is a clutch player.
Drews defensive skills need work and he is not very athletic. I have heard some scouts say they don’t think he’ll be as good as a pro, they are concerned with his size they feel he won’t be as effective against NBA guards. They also feel his lack of athletic ability will hinder him, and also whether his skills will carry over in the NBA to be a productive player at the next level.
I think he could be a solid player off the bench and can contribute in some way. I think as long as Drew keeps playing with heart giving his all, and continues to work on improving he has a good shot at being able to compete at the NBA level. I see similarities between him and Luke Ridnour.
