Relax and Stay Awhile

More and more each year underclassmen declare for the draft, this year it is 58, most of them won’t be selected in the draft, or there is also a good chance they won’t pan out for long. Here is 10 players who had a lot of NBA potential, but didn’t develop into complete players, because they rushed playing pro ball before they were ready.

Omar Cook, freshman 2001, picked #31 by Orlando only played 22 games in 2 NBA seasons, now plays overseas.

JaRon Rush, Sophomore 2000, wasn’t even drafted and never made an NBA roster, he is the older brother of Kareem and Brandon Rush. He had some off the court problems.

Joe Forte, Sophomore 2001, picked #23 by Boston, played 25 games in 2 NBA seasons, had team character issues and couldn’t make an NBA squad after playing with the Sonics. He also played in the NBDL in 2004.

Dejuan Wagner, Freshman 2002, picked #6 by Cleveland, played 103 games in 4 NBA seasons, has been hindered by several injuries. He is looking to find an NBA team to join.

Khalid El-Almin, Junior 2000, picked #34 by Chicago, played 50 games in 1 NBA season, now plays overseas and is a star MVP.

Rodney White, Freshman 2001, picked #9 by Detroit, played 218 games in 4 NBA seasons, was waived by the Warriors in 05, and is now a journeymen overseas.

Marcus Taylor, Sophomore 2002, picked #52 by Minnesota, never made an NBA roster, currently putting up good numbers overseas.

Brandon Armstrong, Sophomore 2001, picked #24 by Houston, played 108 games in 3 NBA seasons, and also played in the NBDL.

Kenny Satterfield, Sophomore 2001, picked #54 by Dallas, played 68 games in 2 NBA seasons, then disappeared from the league, is now currently playing NYC summer league ball, and scored a record 62 pts in a game.

Chris Taft, Sophomore 2005, picked #42 by Golden State, played 17 games in 1 NBA season. He had an injury and missed a lot of time during preseason, so the Warriors released him. He is looking for a team to play on consistently.

This could happend to alot of players this year, if they don’t pull out. 58 is way too many underclassmen, it’s getting ridiculous most of them think they’re better than they really are. .

Alot of players this year should read this article, and think hard about pulling out while they still have a chance. This is a good piece for them to read to see what happens if you’re truly not ready. Very Good Article Lance. .

Kenny is ballin on the streets, but it still don’t compare to the NBA life. the moment he declared I knew he would be out the league real quick. But I agree these cats bring it on themselves by rushing to play pro ball, when they have good in college. .

They ain’t getting paid, Got Paid? Money shouldn’t be the only focus, so left school early, spent that money, and can’t find jobs. They could’ve had a degree to fall back on by now. Instead they’re poster boys for rushing to get rich and died (career wise) trying. .

I ain’t mad at them for taking a risk, that’s what life is all about take risk and trying to getting rewarded for it. They tired to make that NBA money ASAP, instead of sittin in a boring classroom, making nothing. Most of them still balling somewhere and doing what they love, whats wrong with that. I comend the players who leave early. The money and pro basketball life is nice. So for those that say they rushing and made bad choices, is wrong, we gotta get our money stacked some how, they chose to go that route, don’t hate. .

I agree these 10 players are the poster boys for failing early in basketball, but they brought it on themselves, by being lured by fame, and money. .

I thought Marcus Taylor has skills but his size killed his chances in my opinion. .

LOL! JaRon, Kareem, and Brandon have the perfect last name RUSH. They do it well to. They’ll be the ultimate family of basketball bust for sure. Brandon will keep the trend going of failing to stay in the NBA. .

If D-Wag didn’t get injuried so much he’d be a star with the Cavs, he would be LeBrons Larry Hughes. I can’t believe the Warriors cut him. I hope he still gets a shot to prove his skills. .

Joesph Forte should’ve been a star, Ed Cota to. They dominated for the TarHeels, but just had to go and make that NBA money without trying to get better. .

I can’t believe Rodney White failed, but I guess he would have lasted longer had he played longer in college. But thats what he gets for rushing it. .

Omar Cook messed up the most, he never should’ve came out, atleast the other stupid ones had a slight chance to make it. .

You should be the advocate for players staying in school. You always bring good points,as to why they should. .

Kalid El-Amin would have been a star over here is he lost weight and stayed all four years. .
