Tyler Hansbrough Report

Tyler Hansbrough is 6’8, 245 pounds and will be a junior at North Carolina. He has been a playmaker in his first two seasons.

He plays with passion and he has good leadership skills. Tyler plays pretty well in the post, he gets good position, he uses spin moves, and a jump hook in the low post. He has a good touch around the basket with put-backs and lay-ups. He has a consistent perimeter shot up to 15 feet. He likes to use his physical strength to create space and shots. He can consistently score on bigger defenders. He has real good upper body strength. He likes to go to the basket to draw fouls, because he is a good finisher and free throw shooter. He has real good offensive and defensive rebounding skills. He has real good hands and catch almost every pass thrown towards him.

Tyler can be an inconsistent defender. His athleticism isn’t the greatest and his leaping ability is ok. He is an undersized PF and his wingspan isn’t very long. His footwork needs improvement he tends to travel with the ball when trying to do a move. He struggles against more athletic defenders. He lacks defensive quickness. His playing style is better suited for a half court set, than an up-tempo.

In the NBA he may not be as good at scoring in the post. His upside may be limited, but his passion, energy, and smarts should allow him to be a solid player in the pros for many years. I think in the NBA at best Tyler could be a Udonis Haslem type player, and at worst an Austin Croshere type of player.

I have all the faith in Tyler being an awesome NBA player! How someone could even compare him to Josh McRoberts is just ridiculous! There is no way Ty will drop to the second round like McRoberts did. I went to Duke but I must say Tyler is the reason I now bleed Tarheel blue!!! .

I like the Udonis Haslem comparsion. Tyler also reminds me of another player that was great in college, but just an average pro, and that’s Christian Laettner. Tyler could wind up having a career like him .

I think Tyler had a hard time last season feeling some pressure playing with Brandan Wright. So he should be a little more relaxed this season .

Tyler is a player that every team could use. If he was an inch or two taller he’d make the perfect power forward. I do agree he’ll be a solid pro, but not a star player .

Hansbrough will be one of those players that was very good in college, but will be average as a pro. Of course I’ll have to wait and see, but I don’t know if he can continue his same playmaking performance on the NBA level, ecspecially with the rebounding and scoring. I think he’ll have stats like 13 points and 5 rebounds a game. .

Tyler should be a solid NBA player he might score a few more points than Haslem, but he definetly looks like he’ll be that type of PF. He is good enough to be starter or even at worst case a 6th or 7th man like Corshere. I definetly don’t see Tyler being a star. I thinkk he could be a mid to late first rounder when he enters the draft .

I know people may hate on me for this one but I don’t care, I truly feel Tyler is overrated. Yeah he puts some solid numbers, but he is very inconsistent and right now most of the PFs are smaller than him so he can out body them in the post. But when he gets to the NBA I think it will be the other way around, he’s shortness and his up and down play will make him an average NBA player at best. I hope a team does’t fall for the hype and draft him too high, I think he’s a late first rounder at best. Matter of fact it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s next years Josh McRoberts and falls flat of him face into the 2nd Rd of the draft, a year or 2 from now you people will be like damn hoops hater was right, watch and see people watch and see! .

I agree that Tylers game won’t be the same in the pros, but he’ll still be good enough to be a solid starter in the NBA like Udonis Haslem .
