Allen leads Seattle past Charlotte

03.5.2007

Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Ray Allen scored 34 points as the Seattle SuperSonics defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, 96-89, at Key Arena.

Rashard Lewis added 28 points for Seattle, which has won three of its last four. Earl Watson had 10 points and 10 assists off the bench for the SuperSonics.

Gerald Wallace had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Bobcats, who have lost five straight. Adam Morrison scored 17 points off the bench in his return to the state where he starred in college at Gonzaga.

Damien Wilkins’ bank shot with 2:40 to go broke an 87-87 tie and gave Seattle the lead for good.

After two Watson free throws pushed the lead to four, Morrison cut into the lane and threw down an emphatic dunk cutting the margin back to two, 91-89 with 2:11 remaining. The Bobcats were held scoreless thereafter.

Lewis then beat his man to the goal for a layup putting the Sonics back up four, 93-89 with 1:50 left to play.

After Charlotte’s Raymond Felton missed a driving layup, Allen finished a fast break with a spinning left-handed layup while drawing a foul. Allen finished the three-point play putting Seattle ahead 96-89 with 1:25 showing on the clock.

A 9-2 run early in the quarter helped Charlotte to a 27-23 lead after one frame.

Seattle used a 9-0 run, capped by an Allen layup to take a 32-29 edge midway through the second stanza.

The SuperSonics led 51-45 at the intermission.

After Seattle pushed its lead to 63-51 early in the third period, Charlotte responded with a 9-0 run to pull within three with 5:13 left in the stanza. A Morrison triple at the buzzer gave the Bobcats a 72-70 lead heading into the final quarter.

Game Notes

Seattle guard Luke Ridnour left the game at the 4:54 mark of the first quarter with neck pain...Seattle has won five of the six meetings between the two.
